More than 500 kids and their family members kicked off their Famous Idaho Potato Bowl experience Jan. 3 with a pre-game visit to St. Luke's FitOne Family Field Day.
The annual event draws kids of all ages to participate in the vertical jump, obstacle courses and more. St. Luke’s Concussion Clinic staff were on hand to make sure all the pre-game players enjoyed the fun safely.
"Family Field Day is a great opportunity for kids to experience football skills and get active prior to the game," said Eric Stride, director of FitOne.
Family Field Day is held in the Caven-Williams Sports Complex next door to Boise State's Albertson Stadium, where this year's bowl game featured the Nevada Wolfpack against the Ohio Bobcats. (Ohio emerged victorious, 30-21.)
Nicole Smith, who is married to Ohio cornerbacks coach De'Angelo Smith, attended FitOne Family Field Day with the couple's young son as well as several other visiting spouses and children of Ohio coaches before their team's big game got underway.
Smith said the Family Field Day activities, especially the 40-yard dash, were a hit with all the kids in the Ohio coaches' group. She appreciated that the volunteers "let the little kids modify the drills" to better fit their skill levels and make the pre-game festivities more entertaining for young children.
"It's nice to have something for the kids that's indoors," Smith said.
